Slow Tinder

During Spring 2021 semester, I worked with five UX students to design slowing down dating app experience with gamified features.

Project duration: 1 week (03/12 - 03/18/20)

Design challenge -

Designing slow Tiner to encourage to reflect on the meaning of the relationships in dating applications.

Because of Tinder’s fast-paced nature of matching, users rarely have the opportunity to slow down and reflect upon their individual matches. The quantity of matches often surpasses the quality of individual matches, especially among college students. But how could we invert that experience to help single college students find more compatible matches and ultimately nurture long-term relationships?

To maintain Tinder’s engaging brand, we aimed to gamify the dating experience while simultaneously slowing down the experience to promote self-reflection. Much of our initial research emphasized spontaneity and reflection. Slow design should also encompass one of the following principles: reveal, expand, reflect, engage, participate, evolve (Strauss, 2008).
